The big outdoors

So. I have let them out. Not really happy about it, but it really can’t wait any longer, afte what poor Bessie has been through. One of the cats must have caught her right eye 2 or 3 weeks ago, which has resulted in her having to have it removed a couple of days ago. She has been treated for dry eye initially, then the infection set in, which caused her inner eye to poke through her outer eye – really painful for her, then while this was being treated, which involved a very delicate (and expensive – thank goodness she’s insured) operation, one of the cats caught the eye again, and made it bleed and undid all the work that had been done. Having her eye out was the only option, and she has been on the up since! Obviously not in any pain now, thank goodness.  Then there is the problem of keeping the 2 very bored cats away from her eyes, so letting them out seemed the only answer. And they have been having a ball! I, on the other hand have been like a cat on a hot tinned roof! Tonto, the wussa cat out of the two, has turned into an adventurer and wanderer, and Yoyo seems more timid and running back to the house periodically.  I shall keep a close eye on them!

Hello peeps! Been a bit busy of late,

Hello peeps! Been a bit busy of late, but I’m here now with 2 new paintings under my belt. One, called ‘Urban Nights’, I painted for my nephew (at his request), As he has not long moved into his own flat. He wanted something colourful – that was the only brief he gave me!! I figured he would probably pref not to have a whimsical lady on his wall, so I decided on focussing on his home city of Southampton,  by collaging a map of the area of Southampton where he lives;     also a S’ton post mark, and some city scape photos of office blocks ( I  actually took at Canary Wharf!). Anyway, he is seemingly very pleased with it. I particularly had fun with some ‘clear tar gel’ I coloured red, and strung it along the roads on the map, which gives a raised effect great fun!

The other painting is of YoYo and Tonto!  I’m actually really pleased with this; I like how the colours have come out. I can only imagine a cat dreams of mice and birds and fish…..(not that either of them have ever seen a fish or mouse – and only birds from the window!). I used a ‘light modelling paste’ pushed through stencils for the white birds, which makes them look like plaster, and again, with a raised effect. I tried to emulate spots as much as possible, as that is after all what makes an Ocicat!

Hope anyone reading this (can’t imagine anyone does!) likes these new paintings!

as for the cats…well they are fine……bored, but fine. I WILL let them out some time soon! They sit looking out the French doors a lot of the time.  Coco, (our tortoiseshell) has done her bit for the BBC programme, ‘Horizon’. She wore her tracker collar like a good girl, and apparently did venture about a bit, so they told me! The bebe also came to the house to film her and the Oci’s. that was a busy week- taking and picking up the collar from the village hall each day! But fun. Look out for the programme in Sept!

oh yes! I am putting 2 of my paintings in the Guildford Art Society’s exhibition in a couple of weeks. The 2 I am showing are ‘Wild Thing’ and ‘Autumn Glory’. I have to do 2 x 3hour slots working there as a contribution to the exhibition, so this will be a new experience for me! Bet mine don’t sell tho!  I just love to paint now I’ve found collage.

Little Holiday

Yes, we’ve just had a little break in Dartmouth. Took the cats (not Coco, as she pukes, poos and pees – in that order in the car – not pleasant for any of us), and of course the dogs. As you can see, the cats decided who slept where…poor old Bessie and Bailey. It was a very noisy journey to begin with, with stereo sounds from the two felines!  Anyway we had a lovely restful (albeit very cold) time down by the sea, and I have since approached 2 of the art galleries in Dartmouth about my new collage work. One has very kindly come backto me to say the more modern sort of art doesn’t sell well in Dartmouth; which really doesn’t come as a surprise as we know the sort of stuff they sell, as we have bought from them ourselves. And as Nick pointed out at the time…”Is Dartmouth ready for this?”!  So…..onwards and upwards….I shall be approaching more urban galleries who maybe are more ready! I did this new painting while in Dartmouth (that was one advantage of the cold weather…we couldn’t get out much – other than to the lovely pubs for lunches /dinners!). This is done in Gouache, as they are easier to transport than all my acrylics. I painted every day  whilst there, and felt I really achieved something. Anyway, we’re back home now, and I’ve so far been too busy to do any more; but I intend to this afternoon after I’ve done this!

Dollie

Dollie

My new painting…collage with mixed media and acrylics with some smudgings of ….eyeshadow!

Do not be fooled, friends…….!

These 2 may look adorable, innocent…….BUT……they had us awake at 5.45am this morning, trying to get into a huge box, and nothing – but nothing will stop an Ocicat on a mission! So it was an early morning cuppa for us this morning, and me trying to re-write this blog, as yesterday’s was wiped off after I put the photo on! We have the BBC coming back again Fri; they (Horizon programme) are doing a programme on cats and what they get up to once through the cat flap. I don’t think any of our 3 will be used as the Oci’s will probably not wear the camera collar, and CoCo, if she will wear the collar, really can’t get up to that much once outside, at her age! (But that’s what we think….maybe this programme will prove otherwise!!). Still when the been came last time, all 3 cats behaved impeccably! Anyway…..art…..I have been very busy painting, and have just finished another which I will put on here in a bit. I’m still doing the same stuff as I want to feel I’ve really got to grips with it before I move onto to something else

. We had some social stuff going on over the weekend, so as my dining table doubles up as my studio, all my stuff had to be moved to another room! Needless to say, it’s all back again now, though. Anyway fellow bloggeroos….that’s a quick update for now. I’ll have a go at getting the new painting on here now! X
